Hair of Jefferson Davis given as a momento to either Mrs. Russell Robinson or Mrs. Wirt Robinson, both of whom were residing in Richmond during the years of the Civil War.
"The lock of hair enclosed in this envelope has the following history: To be given to the Confederate Museum in Richmond. Hair of Jefferson Davis given to Mrs. Robinson by Mrs. King of Norfolk who got a lock of Mr. Davis's hair from a barber who had just shaved him and who gave Mrs. Robinson a part of the lock. I [?] believe this was just after Davis's liberation when he was passing through Richmond." (written onto envelope)
