Co. / Chicopee / Mass"; gilded brass hilt with medallion engraved "Presented to Capt. N. G. Evans of the U. S. Army by the State of S. C. as a token of esteem for gallant conduct in the Battle of Wichita, Texas, October 1, 1858."; scroll quillon, multiple branches cast with floral designs flow into knuckle bow pierced near pommel for sword knot; pommel cast with eagle perched on Phrygian cap; bone grip carved with Baroque designs, ferrule at base of grip cast with band of floral design. Gilded brass scabbard (.159a) with two suspension rings and mounts cast with leaf design, applied cast South Carolina state seal, wreath with "Battle / of / Wichita / Oct. 1st / 1858", battle scene, American eagle clutching shield and arrows, lower scabbard engraved with Indian military trophies and floral scrolls, cast oak leaf spray on drag, stamped on reverse near throat ""Made by / Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee Mass". Wooden presentation case (.159b) lined in blue velvet.|
