Event Second Battle of Ream's Station
Provenance Richard Brooke Gwathmey captured the Remington revolver from Union Major Hall. Gwathmey enlisted in July 1861 in Co. H, 9th Virginia Cavalry. He used the weapon until he was killed at Ream's Station on August 25, 1864. Newspaper articles accompanying the donation speak in glowing terms of Gwathmey's bravery.
