Provenance This bullet is said to be the first one fired during the war, on Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland, April 19, 1861. It was fired into a man, who was carted up Charles St. to Dr. Thomas Buckler, who extracted the bullet as the man lay in the cart. It was eventually given to George Schaefer, the son of the donor.
