Provenance Inkstand used by Jefferson Davis in Richmond while President of the Confederacy. It was left by Burton Harrison, secretary to Mr. Davis, at the home of Mrs. Amelia Haile near Gainesville, Florida, at the same time he left the fork (0985.2.7). Mr. Harrison stayed for a time with Mrs. Haile in Florida during his escape from the Federal troops after the evacuation of Richmond and capture of Jefferson Davis.
