Description The handkerchief is red and white silk with black line stencil in a very deteriorated condition. The handkerchief was originally cut into pieces and sewn onto a paper board backing, but the pieces were removed from the paperboard in August 1990. Black printed portraits of prominent Confederate leaders are printed on the white background. Jefferson Davis is at center, surrounded by (clockwise from top): Joseph E. Johnston, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, James M. Mason, Robert E. Lee, Raphael Semmes, P. G. T. Beauregard, John Slidell, and John Hunt Morgan.
