Description Confederate Cavalry Saber: single-edged curved blade with single, unstopped fuller; scalloped leather cushion; brass hilt with two branches and knuckle bow flowing from oval guard terminating at plain, cylindrical pommel; grip wrapped in waterproofed canvas and remains of twisted wire wrap. Metal scabbard (.737a) with large drag and brass mounts.

Provenance This sword and scabbard were found in a house located at 529 Fourth Street, Richmond, Virginia in March 1891. Repairs were being made to a ceiling where the items were discovered, probably after being hidden there during the evacuation in April 1865.
