Description Ninth-plate ambrotype with applied color, of a young woman seated in chair, turned slightly to viewer's left, looking at camera, dark hair parted down middle, smoothed behind ears and styled in a braid or snood at the nape of the neck; cheeks and lips tinted pink; small, rounded white collar does not meet in the middle; gold tinted brooch clasped in between collar ends; modified yolk trimmed in wide dark braid and along shoulder seams, front has box pleats with dark buttons along closure, waistband with a dark button, full skirt with a dark double braid down the center, full sleeves with dark braid at the cuffs, hands clasped on left thigh, wearing black net mitts;
Scalloped gilt mat embossed with scroll motif, double preserver, maroon-colored cordurouy pad, dark brown embossed leather covering door section of case with foliate motif, leather covering missing on image section, brass latch and latch hook intact, union case in two sections;
