Description Ninth-plate ambrotype with applied color; woman, bust portrait, shoulders facing 3/4 to viewer's left, head facing to camera, looking at camera; broad-brimmed straw hat, finished with a wide gathered ribbon and bow, thin ribbons tied under chin, cheeks tinted pink, hair not visible under hat, likely pinned up; lacework collar possibly with a brooch in the center, plain bodice, droped shoulders, and possibly bishop or bell shaped sleeves; oval gilt mat, embossed wtih scroll work; preserver is stamped with floral motif; embossed leather-covered wook case with quatre foil motif, brass hook in place, obverse cover section missing;

Provenance Photograph of Georgia Bryan at the age of about (1846-1925) was born in McIntosh County, Georgia, and resided in Savannah, Georgia. She was the daughter of Thomas Forman (formerly Thomas Marsh Bryan; he changed his surname to Forman in 1846 to secure his maternal grandfather's estate in Maryland) and Florida Troup Bryan of Georgia. She may have been dressed in mourning for her sister, Ann Carter Bryan, who died in 1862.
