Description Eighth-plate tintype; bust portrait of a man, in uniform, facing 3/4 to viewer's right, looking past camera to viewer's right, hair parted on side, full beard and moustache; wearing double-breasted uniform coat, unbuttoned, with insignia of Confederate Colonel on collar; vest, buttoned, shirt with standing collar, neck tie, tied horezontally; tintype is mounted in cardstock, with filigree design aournd edge of card;
A typewritten note accompanying the photograph reads: "This tintype is supposed to have been taken by Thos. N. Holliday of Lodge Va., who was a photographer. "

NOTE: The original photographic studio for this pose of Gen. Robert E. Lee is Minnis & Cowell, which means that Holliday would have made a photographic copy of the original, and then proceeded with the creation of a tintype version.
