Description Sixth-plate daguerreotype, of a man, shoulders facing slightly to viewer's right, head facing camera; hair parted on subject's left side, with a wave/curl around forhead, cleanshaven; wearing double-breasted civilian frock coat, over waistcoat, shirt with standing collar, wide necktie; a medal on a ribbon around his neck; mat is oval with embossed detail around opening; preserver has emobssed or stamped foliate design; case has gilded pattern around edge of inside opening; case is leather-wrapped wood, with embossed scroll pattern around center floral medallion; inside front cover is liined in red silk; front and back case covers are held together with black cloth tape
