The board's purpose was to examine and report on various points in connection with the defence of Savannah and its approaches. The proceedings consist of twenty legal-size pages. Previously bound.

Ames / Cutler / Springfield", leather cushion; brass cruciform hilt, quillons terminating in floral buds, langets and arms decorated in floral designs and five-point stars, langets extend forward over blade and counter-sunk into grips; knuckle bow consists of two flat-link chains (one detached from quillon); crested helmet pommel; bone grip with incised decoration. Silver plated brass scabbard decorated with applied Palmetto / palm tree behind shield and panoply of flags; two suspension rings on same horizontal plane with remains of belt sling attached to one with brass swivel snap hook; scabbard bent near tip; less than 50% of silver remains on scabbard. Non-regulation Militia Non-Commissioned Officer's Sword, 1850-1870: straight double-edged blade without fuller; brass cruciform guard, shell shaped langets extend over blade; fluted bone grip; closed helmet pommel. Leather scabbard (.69a) with brass mounts and leather frog.

This decoratively ornamented work basket was made from palmetto leaves with a light red silk liner, pale yellow sides, and a white bow on the handle. Straw is woven into loops and rosettes are sewn to the basket.

THIMBLE -

The thimble consists of a small steel hollow, bottomless cone with a standard beaded pattern done in relief. The number "8" is stamped into the lower band of metal.

The handkerchief is red and white silk. Black printed portraits of prominent Confederate leaders are printed on the white background. Jefferson Davis is at center, surrounded by (clockwise from top): Joseph E. Johnston, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, James M. Mason, Robert E. Lee, Raphael Semmes, P. G. T. Beauregard, John Slidell, and John Hunt Morgan.
