CHEST OF DRAWERS -

This roughly constructed pine chest has three drawers with the remnants of paint or a stain. There are no pulls or escutcheons that remain on the drawer faces. There is a brass plaque on the top that reads, "Used by Mr. Judah Benjamin 1862-65."

SIlver plated oval dish cover with stem and leaf handle. The cover is bell shaped with a hanging hook on the underside of the rim. Stamped on underside: "Patented Silver Dish Cover".

Uniform Frock coat: double breasted, 7 buttons in each row, gray wool and cotton cloth with sky blue wool broadcloth facings and blue wool merino piping, dark green wool and silk lining in body, white cotton sheeting in sleeves, embroidered gold major's collar insignia edged in blue, gold sleeve braid, Louisiana state buttons with backmark: EXTRA/RICH.

The plate is white semi-porcelain with a wide blue band near the rim. The plate is associated with a deep rectangular serving dish (.129a) of the same pattern.

Case, Watch -

This is an olive wood watch case with a sliding drawer. The drawer has a circular well to receive the watch and is lined with velvet. There are Hebrew characters spelling "Jerusalem" in gold paint on the lid.

Satchel -

This is a very worn and dirty leather case with a stiff frame side and slouch pocket side. It has a brass escutheon and turn keys and was originally double handled but one has completely rotted away. The inner liner is fabric. The added brass plate reads: "This satchel brought Confederate Seal from England--Presented to the Confederate Museum by Capt. R.T. Chapman C.S.A. Navy Wharton Texas Oct. 1901." Contains box (.15b).

Box: black leather-covered box, with hinged lid, lined in red velvet, with a brass clasp. Interior contains two cut-away spaces for handle and seal of the Great Seal of the Confederacy to be stored separately. Embossed in gold on the lid of the box, "ENGRAVED BY / J. S. WYON / 287 REGENT ST. / LONDON, ENGLAND / 1863." [*** Note: The two leather cases for the Great Seal of the Confederacy appear to have become mixed up over time. One was donated with the Great Seal of the Confederacy (0985.13.229), and the other was donated with its carrying satchel (0985.12.15a), but it is unknown which is which. At time seal was sent from Great Britain, an invoice specified "box with spring lock", which

Board, Cribbage -

This is a cribbage board made of a rectangular walnut box with an inlay of bone, cherry, ebony, and oak. The bone inlay is stamped into the cribbage pin in a dot pattern and there is a decorative wood inlay is in the chevron pattern. A single brass hook and ring locks the case shut. The inside is divided into three compartments, with the center one being small and lidded. The case top has a blue velvet liner and the bottom is papered with a blue and white leaf pattern paper. Two blue grosgrain ribbons remain on either side of the center compartment.

The sponge cup is porcelain glazed with light red, green, and light green in a simple cylindrical design.

The two riding boots (1 pair) are made of black leather with cut-away tops and white cotton twill pulls. The front of each boot is made of three separate panels. The front panel is leather, smooth out and most likely lined. Each boot once had a buckle or strap and are sewn with mostly hand stitching. The soles are original and blind stitched. The soles also appear to been repaired with period pegs. The boots have no markings but show indication of wearer having spurs on boots. The boots are typical Southern manufacturing of the war period.

Doll - Grace Darling

Adult female doll is an unmarked German china shoulderhead doll with china arms and legs and a cotton-stuffed linen body. Hair is black molded and painted Flat Top hairstyle. Eyes are painted blue. Cheeks are painted rosy pink. Mouth is painted with darker-red lip accent line that dips in the center to form a small "V". Dress is silk taffeta , originally purple, green, and black (now faded to gray and black); white lace collar and undersleeves with a net petticoat, white petticoat, pantalets, and stockings. Shoes are black flats, believed patent leather (replacement). The doll is missing proper left hand.

Uniform frock coat: double breasted, 7 buttons in each row, gray wool broadcloth with buff wool broadcloth piping, no facings, dark green wool and silk lining in the body, white cotton sheeting (with double red and double blue pinstripes) lining in the sleeves, embroidered gold major's collar insignia with buff edging, gold sleeve braid, Confederate staff buttons with backmarks, "RIVET'D & SOLDER'D" and "EXTRA / RICH."
