INKSTAND -

This is a lid from an inkstand with scalloped steel and beaded glass. It is stamped "Improved per's Patent...." along the outer edge of a steel lid. It also caries the date of manufacture and/or patent: January 7, 1851.

LID -

The lid (believed for a sugar bowl) is porcelain with a golden blossom handle set into a raised and gilded glazed leaf pattern. The circular base has concentric bands of gold, blue, orange, and filigree line gold decoration. It has a semicircular notch near the rim.

Bowl, Sugar -

The sugar bowl consists of a silver bowl on stand with a broken blue glass inner liner (.159a) and a silver lid (.159b). No marks.

NAMEPLATE -

Copper octagon with remnants of silver plate. Engraved on the face in longhand script: "Jeff, Davis."

The tapestry fragment is a selvaged border of blue, gray, red, and white wool threads woven into an organic pattern. Formerly within the socket of a candlestick (0985.11.32).

CANDLESTICK -

The candlestick is made of a French pearl glazed ceramic formed as a jacketed boy in a patriot's cap standing in front of a decoration of leaves and berries. Inscription: Stamped "LL 227". Within the socket was formerly a small piece of tapestry (0985.11.31).

The drapery braid is a red and yellow twisted cord in a looped and scalloped pattern. A handwritten note pinned to the braid reads, "from Jeff Davis' window curtain."

Cast plaster of Paris portrait bust of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. No base. Painted off-white color. This piece is associated with a reproduction (X0985.13.240a).

MIRROR -

These are jagged fragments of a glass mirror applied to a marbleized piece of cardboard. Written in ink on the board is "Va Treasury Office 1864," on the reverse is "Confederate War glass framed June 22, 1864." "...and the United States forces are hammering away to take this the capitol of VA and the Confederate with no success as yet the strong arm of the Lord is with us and our men are sanguine Victory or Death."

The single curtain tieback is made of dark red and off-white wool silk thread wound around a cotton or wool and wooden filler. It has two tassels.

The two door curtains are a pair of portieres, made of red wool lampas on point loom, with worsted warp and marool filler. The pattern repeats after 26".

LAMBREQUIN -

The two window/door lambrequins (1 pair) are made of red and gold wool lampas, a wool damask with a gold worsted warp and filler float stain . The lambrequins are done at 6 1/2" point, mirrored to 13".

The single curtain tieback consists of multi-colored silk threads wrapped around a cotton or wool filler. The tieback also has a tassel. Colors are predominantly green, red, blue and gold.

Lock of hair in blue paper in a white paper sleeve, "Genl R E Lee's hair - Bremo June 9th 1870." This lock of Lee's hair is associated with another such lock in ruled paper (.1200a).
