Single breasted, 9 button front, brownish-gray wool and cotton twill cloth with no facings; shoulder straps (with side-facing buttons); green wool cord piping on the collar, shoulder straps, cuffs and around edges of jacket; off-white cotton sheeting lining in body and sleeves, small local Confederate staff buttons with no backmarks.

SAFE -

Large combination safe; believed to be iron. Two metal hinges attach to door, which swings open on right side. Shelf with slots for papers across top; various other shelves inside. Hole drilled in back. Once had a combination lock; now has a regular key lock (key stored on top of safe).

Set, Chess -

Set of forty red and white wooden chessmen in wooden box with sliding lid. Three wooden checkers are also in the box. Handwritten label reads, "John H. Poston/ Company A/ 14th Tenn. [Infantry] Vol./ Huntersville/ Va/ From/ H.H. Poston." "CLARKSVILLE TENN"

STAMP -

Postcal cancellation stamp with turned wooden handle and a rubber disc reading: "PETERSBURG/APR 4 1862 VA". The rubber is badly deteriorated.

Depicts a night scene, of a light shining from the distance at a crumbling fort; an explosion occurring above the fort; a sailboat and small rowboat, with two figures in it, shown in foreground at left. Not signed or dated (or inscription, if present, is impossible to read). Painted in black script along lower front edge of frame, "Night Bombardment / Dec 10th 1864." Paper label adhered to reverse of frame, "Night Bombardment Dec 10 1863 / 17".

Depicts an expanse of water with a brick fort, above which is flying a flag on a flagpole, near the horizon; a small sailboat with several men in it, approaching one man standing on a rock, is shown near the lower left corner. Inscribed onto lower left corner of painting, very faintly, "JOHNSON / MARCH 5th 1864". Not signed. Painted in black script along lower front edge of frame, "Fort Sumter & Johnson Mar 15, 1864". Paper label adhered to reverse of frame, "Sumter and Johnson March 15th 1864 / 26".

Trousers: sky blue wool kersey cloth, inner facings and pockets are light brown cotton osnaburg, japanned tin buttons.
