Souvenir -

Dried flowers attched to a card (4.5" x 2.5"). Handwritten at the bottom of the card: "A momento at Fort Delaware by a Confederate prisoner there in 1864." Old museum label "78".

One of a pair of rings made from buttons. This ring features a cross hatch design around the edges at the top and a feather design on either side of intials "S.H.M."

CANDLESTICK -

The candlestick is carved from wood and has a rounded base with a curving upward stem to the neck. Carved thin bands are around the neck. A portion of the lip is broken. A handwritten history is located in two places.

Gutta percha Greek cross with inlayed shell in the arms and center of the cross. May have originally been attached to chain (0985.5.109).

Gutta percha chain with oval links. There is a smaller section of 12 links, a separate larger section of 28 links, as well as 6 broken pieces. May have originally been attached to cross (0985.5.109a).

CUP -

The cup is carved from a coconut shell. It has a blackened finish and is ornately carved on the outside with a five-pointed star within a circle, two flags (one features a single star, the other is an Army of Northern Virginia battle flag), and other elements.

Chess piece: Dark (red) colored wooden pawn. Circular hole in base indicates it was turned, and the piece is highly polished. Consists of a slight concave bottom with a flat base with rounded shoulder leading up into a smooth neck. The neck is topped with a slightly elongated bulb on top of a flared collar. On the bottom is handwritten in black ink "W. Thomason / Caldonia, Tenn." along the outer edge. Part of a thirty-one chess pieces (missing one rook), carved from wood, stained and polished. The names and hometowns of various men are written on the bottom of each piece. The are contained in a tobacco box (184a).

The neck is topped with two flared collars (the lower slightly larger), a stylized closed crown, and a tapering pointed finial. On the bottom is handwritten in black ink, an illegible name and hometown along the outer edge. Part of a thirty-one chess pieces (missing one rook), carved from wood, stained and polished.
