BUST - Alexander H. Stephens

Bust is a plaster portrait of a male subject with an extremely soft surface. The subject is shown in a head-on view wearing a classical stole type garment. Unsigned. Conservation measures done in February 1985 stabilized the piece and determined that the cast was probably never finished. Plate attached to base inscribed, "Hon. Alexander Stephens / Modeled by J.Q.A. Ward sculptor at the Stephens home / Crawfordsville GA A.D. 1858. Carved in marble and / presented to Mrs. Robert Toombs by Mr. Stephen A.D. 1859. / This the original bust is presented by the sculptor to / the Confederate Museum, Richmond, VA. A.D. 1909".

Saucer -

Cup (.155) and saucer. Saucer is white porcelain with blue flowers and gold trim, Marked "D&C Fran__"

Pattern: First National flag; silk. Reverse canton: unit designation and presentation history, "Presented by the Ladies of Baltimore to the Perrott Guards of New Orleans." in gold paint. Stars: Fifteen gold-painted, 5-pointed. Border: 1 inch red silk on hoist edge. Attachment: Sleeve. Unit Designation: "PERROTT GUARDS" in gold paint. Battle Honors: None.

BADGE -

A round paper badge that is white, printed sepia, and a blue painted border. On the front of the badge is a portrait of Jefferson Davis with the words"MAN IN THE RIGHT PLACE***OUR FIRST PRESIDENT" and on the back is a portrait of A.H. Stephens surrounded by Confederate stars. On each side is three layers paper, each subsequently smaller, with the smallest layer containing the portrait.
