Name Redwood, Allen Christian
Notes One of the war's most famous soldier artists, Allen Christian Redwood enlisted with Co. C, 55th Virginia Infantry and served as the unit's Sergeant-major in 1863. He was wounded at Mechanicsville, captured at Second Manassas, exchanged, then wounded again at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He subsequently then transfered to Co. C, 1st Maryland Cavalry and served on the staffs of Generals Lunsford Lomax and Henry Heth. His drawings and sketches are featured throughout the four-volume set, Battles and Leaders of the Civil War.

Metal paint box with black enamel coating. The box has a tri-part fold; the center section contains twenty-five paint pots and long trough for pencils and pen. The inner cover is enameled and stamped, "____&____ Dealer in paint and Artists Materials, 282 Sixth Ave _____" in an oval. Twenty-four brushes (.3a), one pen, and one pouncer are also in the paint box. Inscription: The inner cover is enameled and stamped, "____&____ Dealer in paint and Artists Materials, 282 Sixth Ave _____" in an oval.

Twenty-four brushes one pen, and one pouncer are in a paint box (.3) A - 10in brown handle with 1 3/4in metal ferrule and .5in hair tip B - 10in wooden handle, brown with "Rubens" stamped on it, 2in metal ferrule with 1/4in hair tip C- 12in wooden handle brown with dark wear towards the top near the 1 1/2in metal ferrule with 1/2in hair tip. D- 10in wooden handle with "12" stamped on top with 1 1/2in metal ferrule, 1/2in hair tip is very sparse E- 5 1/2in woden handle with "5/Windsor & Newton/L" stamped on handle. 1 1/2in metal ferrule with sparse 1/4in hair tip F- 5 1/2in wooden handle with "7/Windsor & Newton/L/England" stamped on handle, with 2in metal ferrule 1/4in hair tip G- 4
