Chess piece: Light colored wooden pawn. Circular hole in base indicates it was turned, and the piece is highly polished. Consists of a flat base with rounded shoulder leading up into a smooth neck. The neck is topped with a slightly elongated bulb on top of a flared collar. On the bottom is handwritten in black ink "Joe. Purvis / Yazoo City, Mis." along the outer edge.
Part of a thirty-one chess pieces (missing one rook), carved from wood, stained and polished. The names and hometowns of various men are written on the bottom of each piece. The are contained in a tobacco box (184a).
