Name Ellis, Zacheus
Notes Ellis resided in New Hanover County, North Carolina and was appointed Capt. of Co. B, 1st North Carolina Heavy Artillery, "River Guards," by Governor Clark. His rank was effective from March 10, 1862. Ellis resigned his commission on October 11, 1862.

Model 1833 U.S. Dragoon Saber: slightly curved, single-edged blade with quill back, engraved on obverse ricasso "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1839"; brass half-basket hilt consisting of two branches and knuckle bow pierced for sword knot, and small oval branch forming a counter guard on the reverse side, quillon terminates in a disc stamped "WS" and "MPL / ORD"; wood grips covered with leather and wound with wire, brass ferrule and backstrap terminating in a stylized bird's head pommel. Browned steel scabbard (.72a) with two suspension rings and large drag; remains of leather sling with horseshoe buckles attached to suspension rings
