Physical Appearance: October 23, 1861 - A[lexander] R[obert] Lawton at Head Quarters Military District, Savannah, [Georgia], to Major Gen[era]l Braxton Bragg, Com[man]ding &c., Pensacola, Fl[orid]a - States that he has a Private Beard confined there and that Beard is allegedly a deserter from Co[mpany] F, 5th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, which is under Bragg's command. Requests permission to send Beard to Bragg. Signed, "A. R. Lawton" Brig[adier] Gen[era]l Com[man]d[in]g. 1 page. <<>> Endorsements: 1) [n. d.] - A[ssistant] A[djutant] G[eneral's] O[ffice] - Forwarded to Col[onel John K.] Jackson of the 5th Georgia. Signed, "Geo. G. Garner" Ass[istan]t Adj[utan]t Gen[era]l. 2) October 29, 1861 - [no location given] - States that Beard is a deserter from said company and regiment. Notes that he deserted approximately September 14. Requests authority to send for him. Signed, "John K. Jackson" Col[onel] 5th G[eorgi]a Reg[iment]. 3) [n. d.] - [no location given] - Instructions to reply to Lawton > Gives Colonel Jackson authority to detach a "trusty" man to bring the deserter back. [Unsigned].
