Scope & Content Proclamation to the People of Maryland, September 8, 1862

Physical Appearance: September 8, 1862 - [Header] Head-Quarters Army N. VA., Near Frederick Town, [Maryland] - Printed proclamation from Lee, taking a diplomatic stance - assuring people of Maryland that his army will respect their rights, while urging them to consider joining the Confederate cause. Printed signature, {R. E. Lee} General Commanding. Inscription in bottom margin, "Presented to the Maryland Room Confederate Museum Richmond Va. by Mollie r. Macgill Rosenberg of Galveston, Texas. August 24, 1904." Document is glued to matboard and looks as if it had been framed at one time. A photocopy is available in the folder.
