Physical Appearance: Two wartime items belonging to Brigadier General Daniel Ruggles:
1921.021.00006a. April 6, 1864 - [Header] Office Provost Marshal, Columbus, Miss[issippi] - Pass No. 56 - Allows L[ieutenant] M. B. Ruggles and 12 servants go to Richmond, V[irgini]a. By order of Joseph Hanlon, L[ieutenan]t Col[onel] & Ch[ie]f Provost Marshal. Signed, "D. S. Mitchell" 1 page, size 3.625" (H) X 6.25" (W).
1921.021.00006b. [n. d.] - war time envelope with imprinted return address, "Confederate States of America, Head Quarters, Dept. No. 1, Official Business" - addressed to Brig[adier] Gen[eral] D[aniel] Ruggles, C[onfederate] S[tates] A[rmy]. Note at left indicates it was received on Dec[ember] 2nd, [n. y.] Other notes: "Shiloh," "Important," and "Beauregard's Letters" are written in pencil on front and back. Size: 3.75" (H) X 8.25" (W).
