Physical Appearance: Letter recommending Brigadier General Bushrod Rust Johnson for promotion to Major General, in May 1864: .1) May 21, 1864 - [Header, written] Confederate States of America, War Department, Richmond, [Virginia] - James A. Seddon, Secretary of War, to "His Excellency, Jefferson Davis, President &c." - Recommends Johnson for rank of Major General in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States, to rank from same date, and then be assigned to duty under General [Pierre Gustave Toutant] Beauregard. Signed "James A. Seddon," Secretary of War. 1 page. Note: small, unidentified newspaper clipping concerning James A. Seddon's obituary glued to front.
