Farewell Address of Major General Nathan B. Forrest Commanding the District of Mississippi and Eastern Louisiana, Confederate Army in the Civil War, Delivered in 1864
Physical Appearance: 1864 - Address of Maj[or] Gen[era]l N[athan] B[edford] Forrest to his Troops - Begins "The old campaign is ended and your Commanding General deems this an appropriate occasion to speak of the steadiness, self-denial and patriotism with which you have borne the hardships of the past year." Committed to the fight, Forrest offers no conciliatory thoughts in the farewell, advising that "there can be no peace . . . "
