Physical Appearance: May 3, 1865 - Handwritten copy of an "official copy" letter from Lieutenant General Richard Taylor at Headquarters Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, Meridian, Mississippi, to Major General Dabney Herndon Maury, Com[man]d[in]g - Acknowledges receipt of communication from Maury concerning letter dated May 2 [see 1939.012.00018]. Directs Maury on what explanation to give his troops for the inevitable surrender to Federal troops. (Signed) R.Taylor, Lieutenant General.
