Rhett, A[ssistant] A[djutant] Gen[era]l, H[ea]d Q[uarte]rs D[epartment of] N[orthern] V[irgini]a - Reports on the enemy's surprise attack on Confederate forces at Hanging Rock Pass, 15 miles north of Romney, [West] Virginia. Signed, "T. J. Jackson" Maj[or] Gen[era]l, P[rovisional] A[rmy of the] C[onfederate] S[tates], C[omman]d[in]g. 2 pp. A blue label is attached to the cover sheet of the letter and reads, "Loaned by the / Southern Historical Society / 1897."
