Physical Appearance: August 19, 1864 - Robert E. Lee, at Head Quarters, Army of Northern Virginia, to Major General Wade Hampton, Commanding Cavalry - Expresses gratitude for the success of operations by the cavalry - especially W. H. F. Lee's operation on August 15, combined operations of W. H. F. Lee and General Gary's operations on August 16, and General Butler's "skillful execution" of Hampton's orders on August 18. Regrets the loss of Brigadier General John R. Chambliss. Signed R. E. Lee, General.
