Letter from Colonel Andrew J. Grigsby to William Garnett, July 12, 1862
Physical Appearance: July 12, 1862 - Letter from A[ndrew] J[ackson] Grigsby at Albemarle Co[unty], V[irgini]a, to W[illia]m Garnett, Esq., Lexington, V[irgini]a - Acknowledges receipt of his letter dated June 15 and states he would have answered sooner except for his regiment's participation in the battles near Richmond. States he was wounded on Tuesday "in the left breast" [July 1 at Malvern Hill]. Defends General Garnett's actions at Kernstown. Advises that one of the witnesses, Col[onel James Walkinson] Allen, was killed in action during the "Friday fight" [June 27 at Gaines Mill]. Signed "A. J. Grigsby" 27th V[irgini]a Vol[unteer]s. 4 pp. Marks: "G-386" at upper left corner page . A photocopy of the letter is available.
