Physical Appearance: August 29, 1861 - S[amuel] Cooper at Adj[utan]t & Insp[ector] Gen[era]l's Office, Richmond, V[irgini]a, to Brig[adier] Gen[era]l W[illiam] J[oseph] Hardee, Com[man]d[in]g Forces &c. &c, Pittman Ferry, Ark[ansas] - Concerns eight independent companies of Arkansas volunteers under Hardee's command. Acknowledges receipt of muster rolls for five of them. Desire a battalion be organized from the remaining three, temporarily assigning Capt[ain] Ja[me]s B. Johnson as L[ieutenan]t Col[onel] and Robert C. Newton as Major. Signed, "S. Cooper," Adj[utan]t & Insp[ector] Gen[era]l. 2 pp. A typed transcript is also available.
