Physical Appearance: The telegram (autographed note signed) is from Lee to Lt. Gen. Richard S. Ewell, dated August 12, 1864. Lee describes to Ewell the nature and purpose of the Union troops at Dutch Gap and Lee's desire to stop the building of a canal there.
