Physical Appearance: August 13, 1862 - Letter from Richard Stoddert Ewell at Head Quarters, 3rd Division, to the Hon. George Wythe Randolph, Secretary of War, [Richmond, Virginia] - Mentions rumors of a "possibility of failure in re-organizing the Maryland Regiment." Thinks this action may throw Colonel Bradley T. Johnson out of army service and recommends him for a more secure commission. Signed, "R. S. Ewell," Major General, Confederate States Army. 2 pp. with blank cover sheet attached. 1st page > Label: "75" near upper left corner. Reverse of blank sheet > Stamps: Rectangular, red ink, "Record & Pension Office / 1900 / War Department / May 2 / 603162." Marks: "No. 5" - "Ewell" - "12."
Archival History Formerly located in the MC 3 M-613g files. A photocopy is available in CML, Box 1, under Ewell. Letter is listed as item #75 on page 195 of the 1905 CMLS Catalogue. Douglas S. Freeman refers to it in his "Calendar of Confederate Papers, "number Md-69-74-75," on page 300.
