Physical Appearance: April 25, 1861 - [Header] State of North Carolina, Executive Department, Raleigh - Appointment as "Lieutenant Colonel of Volunteers in the service of the State of North Carolina." Orders him to report for duty to Colonel D[aniel] H[arvey] Hill at the Camp of Instruction near Raleigh. Signed, "John W. Ellis" [Governor]. Signed "Graham Daves" Private Secretary. 1 page. The commission is glued to a same size piece of heavy paperboard. Paper is embossed with Virginia state seal.
