Scope & Content Orders from Adjutant General S. R. Gist to Captain Brewster, January 7, 1861

Physical Appearance: January 7, 1861 - Head Quarters, [Charleston, South Carolina] - orders from S[tates] R[ights] Gist to Capt[ain] Brewster - Acknowledges receipt of a telegram advising that a merchant steamer "The Star of the West" is expected with reinforcements for Fort Sumter. Directs him to keep a "sharp lookout for her." Signed "S. R. Gist", Adj[utant] Gen[era]l. A note written across the top margin reads, "First attempt to re-inforce Ft. Sumter, January 7/ 61." A second note, written at the bottom left corner, reads, "Mrs. W. P. Pledger to Chas. Herbst[,] March 6 / 75."
