Physical Appearance: The letter is from Lt. Col. George M. Edgar to Jones, dated July 22, 1863. Edgar requests permission to reorganize the 26th Battalion Virginia Infantry into nine companies of sixty-four each. States that that the tenth company "be organized whenever it may be deemed necessary by the Commanding Officer of the Regiment." There are also several regiments that have fewer than ten companies.
