Lay: a) J[ames] E[well] B[rown] Stuart, Brigadier, at [no location given], to Capt[ain John F.] Lay - Sends orders to keep his pickets at present posts until Gen[era]l Hill passes you and then withdraw them and follow him. States that when Lay gets to Warrenton, [Virginia] to report to him for orders. Signed "J. E. B. Stuart" Brigadier. Marks: "L-548 A" in upper right corner. b) J[ames] E[well] B[rown] Stuart, Brigadier, at [no location given], to [Captain John F. Lay] - Very brief - "a change of signals sent in haste." Signed "J.
