Reports of Heavy Artillery Serving on James Island, South Carolina, December 29, 1864 & January 4, 1865
Physical Appearance: Two returns and a telegram concerning heavy artillery units serving on James Island, South Carolina:
a) December 29, 1864 - Telegram from Brigadier General S[tephen] Elliott, Jr., com[man]d[in]g, at Royals, to Capt[ain] [W. F.] Nance, A[ssistant] A[djutant] G[eneral] - Corrects an omission from the return sent earlier in the day. Adds Capt[ain] W. E. Timmerman's Co[mpany] C, Siege Train, formerly Pee Dee Light Artillery. 1 page. Marks "E-11-1" near the top. A CMLS seal is embossed twice on the telegram. <
b) December 29, 1864 - H[ea]d Q[uarte]rs 3rd Sub Dist[rict] S[outh] C[arolina], James Island, [South Carolina] - Brigadier General Stephen Elliott to Captain W. F. Nance, A[ssistant] A[djutant] G[eneral] - Submits report of the organizations of Heavy Artillery serving in his command with names of commanding officers, dates of their appointments, and effective strengths. Units listed: 1st South Carolina Artillery; 2nd South Carolina Artillery; 22nd Georgia Battalion Artillery; Captain A. J. Macarthy's Mercer Artillery; Captain J. H. Tiller's Echols Artillery; South Carolina Siege Train Artillery; Lucas Battalion Artillery; and Palmetto Battalion Light Artillery. Signed "S. Elliott, Jr." Brigadier General Com[man]d[in]g. 3 legal-size pp. Marks: "E-11-2" and "No. 11 - Case E" on p. . A CMLS seal is embossed on all pages. <
c) January 4, 1865 - H[ea]d Q[uarte]rs 3rd Sub District South Carolina, James Island - Brigadier Stephen Elliott to Captain W. F. Nance, A[ssistant] A[djutant] G[eneral] - Submits report of artillery organizations serving in his command with guns in placements. Signed at the bottom of p. 4, "S. Elliott Jr." Brig[adier] Gen[era]l Com[man]d[in]g. List of Placements: 1) Fort Johnson & dependencies - under Lieut[enant] Col[onel] Jos[eph] A.
