Physical Appearance: The letter is from Brig. Gen. John S. Williams to Jones, dated February 25, 1864. Writing from Wytheville, Virginia, Williams sends Jones a ten-page letter wherein Williams recounts past disagreements regarding command and judgments that, as charges Jones passed on to Richmond, cost Williams a command for months. Mention of Special Order no. 95. <> Last page: "I have been relieved from command of the Dpt. (?) of West Virginia about the time of the date of this letter and read it in Richmond when I was awaiting orders and seeing on a court of ...(?) I was too busy to write fully in reply and soon afterwards assigned to the Command of the dept of South Co. Georgia and Florida, releasing Gen. Beauregard. When I had no time to write...[illegible]. General Williams." Towards bottom: "Received in Richmond March 12, 1864." 10 written pages on 3 legal sheets.
