Portfolio belonging to Major General Fitzhugh Lee
Physical Appearance: Black leather pocket portfolio with gilt trim and leather clasp fastener. Gilt lettering reads, "Philip & Solomons / Washington." Contains partially used note pad, with perforated pages. Pages have imprinted heading at top of , "Head Quarters, Army of Virginia / _____ 1862 _____ o'clock, __ M." Pages have at the bottom, imprinted, "By command of Maj[or] Gen[era]l [John] Pope." Front inside cover has orders regarding Harrisonburg written in pencil by Major General Fitzhugh Lee. One partial page has an incomplete message, dated August 19, 1862 sent to Maj[or] Gen[eral] [Henry] Halleck. A complete page has a message, dated August 20, 1862 sent from Rappahannock Station to an unspecified general, signed "H. W. Smith" L[ieutenan]t Col[onel]. The next page, also dated August 20, 1862 lists several wounded enlisted men. Last few pages in the back contains pencil drafts of orders from Major General Fitzhugh Lee, dated September 9+, 1862, with his headquarters at New Market, [Virginia]. The middle section of pages are blank.
