Letter from W. W. Davies to Maj. Gen. Samuel Jones, February 15, 1864
Physical Appearance: The letter is from W. W. Davies to Jones, dated February 15, 1864. Writing from the "CSS Patrick Henry" at Richmond, Virginia, Davies relates that he quit his commission as Lt. Col. of Infantry when the President commissioned him for Navy service. A delay in paperwork kept him from going to sea, and so now Davies teaches math aboard the "Patrick Henry" (naval academy). He is "living a life of most inglorious inactivity." Davies requests to join Jones' staff. 2 pp on 1 legal sheet.
