Physical Appearance: April 7, 1863 - S[amuel] B[ell] Maxey at Head Quarters, Maxey's Brigade, Camp near Port Hudson, L[ouisian]a, to Major General Franklin Gardner - Urgently requests 300 Enfield Rifles for his men as they remain unarmed with their current position a prime target for the enemy. Describes how his brigade manned and operated the "Queen of the West" and "Webb" against the "Indianola." Signed, "S. B. Maxey" Brig[adier] Gen[era]l. . <<>> Endorsement: April 15, 1863 - Urgently request that Maxey's men be supplied with long arms. Signed, "Franklin Gardner" Maj[or] Gen[era]l.
