Physical Appearance: This folder of the William Booth Taliaferro Papers contains the following correspondence from 1859:

a) November 23, 1859 - H. at Wheeling, [West] V[irgini]a to Col[onel] A. McBarbour at Harper's Ferry, [West] V[irgini]a, concerns an enclosed letter relating to a possible attack on Harper's Ferry. Marked "Confidential"

b) November 26, 1859 - Captain John Scott, commanding at Charlestown, [West Virginia] Post, to General [William Booth] Taliaferro, reporting that he has dispatched through Captain Thomas Ashby four parties of scouts to extend observations to distance of six to eight miles from main routes leading from Charlestown (original and handwritten copy).

c) December 9, 1859 - W. H. Richardson at Adjutant General's Office, [Richmond, Virginia] to Sir [General William Booth Taliaferro], report of recommendations and requests cold weather gear for troops.

d) December 10, 1859 - D[aniel] A. Weisiger, Col[onel], [illegible] Court at Charlestown, [West Virginia], states that the Officer of the Guard will send Private Moffatt of Wooding's Rifles to the court martial then is session.

e) December 11, 1859 - "Report of a Guard mounted at Charlestown V[irgini]a Dec[ember] 10th, Relieved Dec[ember] 11th 1859," includes "List of the Guard" of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Relief, and "List of Prisoners," signed by F. M. Wright, Lieut[enan]t Petersburg City Guard, 39th Regiment V[irgini]a Mil[itia], commanding the Guard.
