Blank, handwritten copy of the Oath of Allegiance.
Appears to have been hand-copied by Lieutenant Francis Whitaker.
|Archival History||Francis R. Whitaker served in 27th Virginia Infantry, Co. E. A printer prior to the war, he enlisted at Lewisburg on 5/9/1861 as a private, but was ultimately promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He is believed to have been from New York, but for unknown reasons chose to enlist with the Confederate Army. He was wounded in the neck at Payne's Farm on 11/27/1863. He was captured at Strasburg 9/23/1864; held at Fort Delaware, where he refused to take the oath of allegiance. He was released on 6/17/1865.|
