Recommendations consideration of Lee's opinion. (Signed) S. Cooper, A[djutant] & I[nspector] G[eneral]. 3) October 24, 1864 - Submitted to the President for his approval. (Signed) J. A. Seddon, Sec[re]t[ar]y [of] War. 4) October 27, 1864 - Approved for temporary rank appointment. Asks of whereabouts of General Wright. (Signed) J. D. A narrow strip of paper has been attached to the right edge of the letter. The following notation is written on the back, "Gen. Sorrel endorsed for promotion by Gen's R. E. Lee, A. P. Hill, S. Cooper, & J. S.[sic] Seddon."
