Physical Appearance: The letter (autographed, signed) is from Lee to Col. Walter H. Taylor, dated May 25, 1866. Lee states his concern for Jefferson Davis' well-being, then imprisoned at Fort Monroe, Virginia. Lee also asks Taylor to send him any correspondence between himself and Davis in order to help in reconstructing events for Lee's proposed history of the Army of Northern Virginia. A typed copy is also present.
