General Robert E. Lee to Colonel Richard S. Ewell, May 14, 1861
Physical Appearance: Lee wrote this note (autographed, signed) to Col. Richard S. Ewell, dated May 14, 1861 on the reverse of a letter written to Virginia Gov. John Letcher. In the note, Lee refers to the matter contained in the letter to Ewell's attention.
The original letter from Charles K. Mallory to Virginia Gov. John Letcher is dated May 13, 1861. In the letter, Mallory informs Letcher "that an hour ago two companies of men from Fort Monroe took possession of the Mill Creek bridge, which connects U. S. Govt. property with this Country..."
The letter is forwarded to Lee by Letcher, who states: "The advice of council is asked in regard to this letter."
