Scope & Content General Pierre G. T. Beauregard: Order to Detain Train, June 1, 1861

Physical Appearance: June 1, 1861 - An order for the Conductor of the train from Winchester to Harper's Ferry, Virginia, to detain the train for at least an hour and wait for arms in care of Mrs. Bradley T. Johnson. Signed, "A. R. Chisolm," Aid de Camp to General [Pierre G. T.] Beauregard. 1 sheet. Two other documents are glued together with this one to form long sheet, which was originally framed when presented to the Museum. The first is [MS-19020428.23a] a May 28, 1861, invoice for ordance and ordnance stores, and the second is [MS-19020428.23c] a June 3, 1861 receipt for 500 rifles; 10,000 cartridges; and 3,500 caps. Marks: "89" on reverse.

Archival History Originally framed with [MS-19020428.23a] and MS-19029428.23c] and placed in the Maryland Room; then filed in the MC 3 M-613d files.. The invoice is listed as item #89 on page 196 of the 1905 CMLS Catalogue. Douglas S. Freeman refers to this order in his "Calendar of Confederate Papers," number Md-89, on page 186.
